Advanced Corrective Facial Peels
At Folsom Plastic Surgery, our board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Mabourakh, and our aesthetics experts are ready to revitalize your skin.
What Are Advanced Corrective Facial Peels?
Advanced corrective facial peels are a type of chemical peel that targets deeper layers of the skin to address more significant concerns than an ordinary facial or exfoliating treatment can help with.
With corrective peels, our aesthetic specialists use acids such as alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) and trichloroacetic acid (TCA) to treat tough skin problems.
Advanced corrective facial peels can provide some impressive results, but they’re not an alternative to surgery like facelift. However, many of our patients choose to schedule facial peels following surgery to help preserve their appearance.
Problems Advanced Corrective Facial Peels Can Treat
Advanced corrective facial peels can treat tough skin issues such as:
- Brown blotches on skin (hyperpigmentation)
- Lines and wrinkles
- Acne
- Acne scars
- Rough skin texture
- Uneven skin tone
- Sun damage
- Large pores
Many patients who opt for corrective peels have a few different skin concerns. We can calibrate your advanced corrective peel for multiple skin issues at one time.
What Kind of Corrective Peel Do I Need?
AHAs
AHAs include fruit acids, lactic acid, and glycolic acid. These acids trigger light skin peeling and can reveal smoother, brighter, and more even-looking skin.
AHA peels can help diminish the appearance of fine lines, smooth out skin roughness, control acne breakouts, and eliminate mild hyperpigmentation.
The concentration of AHA depends on your skin needs. You can have AHA peels as often as once a week. Sometimes, our patients start with an AHA peel, as it helps prepare skin for even bigger results with a TCA peel later.
AHA peels don’t require any downtime, but it’s important to protect your skin after the peel. Wear sunscreen whenever you’re outdoors.
TCA peels
TCA peels are a medium-depth peel and stronger than AHAs. We often recommend TCA peels for wrinkles, blemishes, texture issues, and hyperpigmentation. This treatment produces more intense peeling than AHA.
It usually takes 5-10 days to see your results. Skin looks red and puffy during that time, but when it dissipates, you’ll see a significant improvement in skin texture and general appearance.
Although you don’t necessarily have to take time off work to have a TCA peel, you need to go makeup-free for around a week. As with any type of chemical peel, wearing sunscreen is vital.
The Advanced Corrective Facial Peel Difference
With advanced corrective peels, we take extra steps to face up to — and defeat — challenging skin problems. Our knowledgeable aesthetics specialists do so through a comprehensive skin analysis, discussing your concerns in depth, and tailoring the type and strength of peel to match your goals.
