Breast Reconstruction

Breast reconstruction after mastectomy is a process that will require staged procedures. Reconstruction may also be performed for deformities other than cancer, such as breast asymmetry or other defects of the breasts. Breast reconstruction can be done using patients own tissues such as the TRAM flap using the abdominal tissues or using the tissues from the back. A more common form of reconstruction uses tissue expander and implants. Nipple reconstruction is the last stage in breast reconstruction. This procedure is covered by medical insurance.

  • Procedure Length: Variable
  • Duration of Results: Permanent

Combining Procedures

Many of our patients undergo multiple procedures at the same time. Reasons for combining procedures include each patient’s unique goals, recovery time, and cost. Breast procedures are usually combined with liposuction or abdominoplasty. Although almost any other procedure can be safely performed at the same time.

One secret to creating beautiful results is achieved by discussing the wishes and expectations of patients, giving them the personal opportunity to discuss their treatment. “After all,” states Dr. Mabourakh, “beauty without inner strength and harmony is only a facade.”
